Chapter 7: Truthfulness and Lying

Muwatta Malik 1954

Malik related to me from Safwan ibn Sulaym that a man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ "Can I lie to my wife, Messenger of Allah?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is no good in lying." The man said, "Messenger of Allah! Shall I make her a promise and tell her?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "It will not be held against you."
