Rumaitha said
"I heard Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace)- and if I wished to kiss the seal between his shoulders, I would do so because of his nearness— say to Sa'd ibn Mu'adh on the day he died: “The Throne of the All-Merciful was shaken on his account!”حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُصْعَبٍ الْمَديَنِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ الْمَاجِشُونِ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ جَدَّتِهِ رُمَيْثَةَ، قَالَتْ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، وَلَوْ أَشَاءُ أَنْ أُقَبِّلَ الْخَاتَمَ الَّذِي بَيْنَ كَتِفَيْهِ مِنْ قُرْبِهِ لَفَعَلْتُ، يَقُولُ لِسَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ يَوْمَ مَاتَ: اهْتَزَّ لَهُ عَرْشُ الرَّحْمَنِ.

Umm al-Mundhir said
“Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) came to see me with 'Ali. We had some suspended clusters of grapes, so Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) started to eat, and 'Ali was eating with him. Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) therefore said to 'Ali: ‘Take it easy, O ‘Ali, for you are a convalescent!’ So 'Ali sat down while the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) ate, and I offered them some chard and barley. The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said to 'Ali: ‘Eat some of this, for this is more appropriate for you'!”حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الدُّورِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا فُلَيْحُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ أَبِي يَعْقُوبَ، عَنْ أُمِّ الْمُنْذِرِ، قَالَتْ: دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، وَمَعَهُ عَلِيٌّ، وَلَنَا دَوَالٍ مُعَلَّقَةٌ، قَالَتْ: فَجَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَأْكُلُ وَعَلِيٌّ مَعَهُ يَأْكُلُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، لِعَلِيٍّ: مَهْ يَا عَلِيُّ، فَإِنَّكَ نَاقَةٌ، قَالَتْ: فَجَلَسَ عَلِيٌّ، وَالنَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَأْكُلُ، قَالَتْ: فَجَعَلْتُ لَهُمْ سِلْقًا وَشَعِيرًا، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم لِعَلِيٍّ: مِنْ هَذَا فَأَصِبْ فَإِنَّ هَذَا أَوْفَقُ لَكَ.

'A’isha, the Mother of the Believers (may Allah be well pleased with her), said
"The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) used to come to me and say: “Do you have something for lunch?” I would say: “No,” so he would say: “I am fasting.” When he came to me one day, I said: “O Messenger of Allah , we have been given a gift!” He said: “What is it?” I said: “It is a meal of dates mixed with butter and curds.” He said: “As for me, I began the day fasting.” But then he ate.”حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلانَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ السَّرِيِّ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ يَحْيَى، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ بِنْتِ طَلْحَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، قَالَتْ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَأْتِينِي فَيَقُولُ: أَعِنْدَكِ غَدَاءٌ؟ فَأَقُولُ: لا قَالَتْ: فَيَقُولُ: إِنِّي صَائِمٌ قَالَتْ: فَأَتَانِي يَوْمًا، فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّهُ أُهْدِيَتْ لَنَا هَدِيَّةٌ، قَالَ: وَمَا هِيَ؟ قُلْتُ: حَيْسٌ، قَالَ: أَمَا إِنِّي أَصْبَحْتُ صَائِمًا، قَالَتْ: ثُمَّ أَكَلَ.

Yusuf ibn 'Abdi’llah ibn Salam said
“I saw the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) take a slice of barley-bread. Then he put a dried date on it and said: ‘This is the condiment for this,’ and he ate it.”حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصِ بْنِ غِيَاثٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي يَحْيَى الأَسْلَمِيِّ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي أُمَيَّةَ الأَعْوَرِ، عَنْ يُوسُفَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سَلامٍ، قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَخَذَ كِسْرَةً مِنْ خُبْزِ الشَّعِيرِ فَوَضَعَ عَلَيْهَا تَمْرَةً وَقَالَ: هَذِهِ إِدَامُ هَذِهِ، وأكل.

Anas said about Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace)
"He used to like the dregs [ath-thufl].” 'Abdullah said: “That means what is left over from the meal.”حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ الْعَوَّامِ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم كَانَ يُعْجِبُهُ الثُّفْلُ، قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ: يَعْنِي مَا بَقِيَ مِنَ الطَّعَامِ.

Ibn Abbas said
"Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) emerged from the toilet, whereupon the meal was presented to him and they said: 'Should we not bring you water for the minor ritual ablution?' He replied: 'I have only been commanded to perform the minor ritual ablution when I get ready for the ritual prayer'.”حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم خَرَجَ مِنَ الْخَلاءِ، فَقُرِّبَ إِلَيْهِ الطَّعَامُ، فَقَالُوا: أَلا نَأْتِيكَ بِوَضُوءٍ؟ قَالَ: إِنَّمَا أُمِرْتُ بِالْوُضُوءِ، إِذَا قُمْتُ إِلَى الصَّلاةِ.

Ibn 'Abbas said
"Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) emerged from having a bowel movement and he was brought a meal, so he was asked: 'Will you not perform the minor ritual ablution?' He replied: “Am I about to perform the ritual prayer, so that I should perform the minor ritual ablution'?”حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمَخْزُومِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْحُوَيْرِثِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، قَالَ: خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم مِنَ الْغَائِطِ فَأُتِيَ بِطَعَامٍ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ: أَلا تَتَوَضَّأُ؟ فَقَالَ: أَأُصَلِّي، فَأَتَوَضَّأُ.

Salman said
“I read in the Torah that the blessing of the meal is the minor ritual ablution after it, so I mentioned this to the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), and I informed him of what I had read in the Torah. Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) then said: ‘The blessing of the meal is the minor ritual ablution before it and the minor ritual ablution after it'!”حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ مُوسَى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا قَيْسُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ (ح) وَحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْكَرِيمِ الْجُرْجَانِيُّ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ، عَنْ أَبِي هَاشِمٍ، عَنْ زَاذَانَ، عَنْ سَلْمَانَ، قَالَ: قَرَأْتُ فِي التَّوْرَاةِ، أَنَّ بَرَكَةَ الطَّعَامِ الْوُضُوءُ بَعْدَهُ، فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، وَأَخْبَرْتُهُ بِمَا قَرَأْتُ فِي التَّوْرَاةِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: بَرَكَةُ الطَّعَامِ الْوُضُوءُ قَبْلَهُ، وَالْوُضُوءُ بَعْدَهُ.

Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari said
"We were in the home of the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) one day, and he served a meal. I had never seen a meal from which greater blessing was obtained at the beginning of our eating, nor less blessing at the end of it, so we said: 'O Messenger of Allah, how is this?' He said: 'We mentioned the Name of Allah when we ate. Then someone who ate sat down and did not pronounce the Name of Allah (Exalted is He), so Satan ate with him!’”حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ، عَنْ رَاشِدِ بْنِ جَنْدَلٍ الْيَافِعِيِّ، عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ، عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الأَنْصَارِيِّ، قَالَ: كُنَّا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، يَوْمًا، فَقَرَّبَ طَعَامًا، فَلَمْ أَرَ طَعَامًا كَانَ أَعْظَمَ بَرَكَةً مِنْهُ، أَوَّلَ مَا أَكَلْنَا، وَلا أَقَلَّ بَرَكَةً فِي آخِرِهِ، قُلْنَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، كَيْفَ هَذَا؟ قَالَ: إِنَّا ذَكَرْنَا اسْمَ اللهِ حِينَ أَكَلْنَا، ثُمَّ قَعَدَ مَنْ أَكَلَ وَلَمْ يُسَمِّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى فَأَكَلَ مَعَهُ الشَّيْطَانُ.

'A’isha said
“Allah’s Messenger said (Allah bless him and give him peace): ‘If one of you eats and forgets to mention Allah (Exalted is He) during his meal, let him say: B'ismillah awwalahu wa akhirahu, which means, 'In the name of Allah at its beginning and at its end'.”حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ مُوسَى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ الدَّسْتُوائِيُّ، عَنْ بُدَيْلٍ الْعُقَيْلِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ أُمِّ كُلْثُومٍ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم: إِذَا أَكَلَ أَحَدُكُمْ، فَنَسِيَ أَنْ يَذْكُرَ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى عَلَى طَعَامِهِ، فَلْيَقُلْ: بِسْمِ اللهِ أَوَّلَهُ وَآخِرَهُ.

'Umar ibn Abi Salama said that he went in to see Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace), who had a meal before him, so he said to him
'O my dear son, pronounce the Name of Allah(Exalted is He), eat with your right hand, and eat what is directly in front of you!’”حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ الْهَاشِمِيُّ الْبَصْرِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الأَعْلَى، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، أَنَّهُ دَخَلَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم، وَعِنْدَهُ طَعَامٌ، فَقَالَ: ادْنُ يَا بُنَيَّ، فَسَمِّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى، وَكُلْ بِيَمِينِكَ، وَكُلْ مِمَّا يَلِيكَ.
